St Cleres again played host to the year 5/6 girls football competition yesterday afternoon. 9 teams took part in the competition, which split the teams into 2 pools with the winner of each pool playing in the final and the runners up in each pool playing off for the bronze.
In the pool stages it was Gateway that dominated the group winning all 3 of their matches, with Stifford Clays placing second with 2 out of 3 wins, and Tudor Court in 3rd with 1 win and 1 draw.
In the other pool it was deneholm who dominated winning all 3 of their matches, with second place tied on points it was decided on goal difference, Woodside with a +5 were placed 2nd with St Thomas 0 GD in 3rd.
The final was set up between Deneholm and Gateway and the 3rd Place play off between Stifford Clays and Woodside. Both were exciting matches, at full time Deneholm were declared winners of the final beating Gateway 2-0, but pain stakingly Woodside and Stifford Clays had to take part in a penalty shoot out to decide the winners. In an exciting battle it was Woodside that triumphed 3-2 on penalties.
