Thurrock success at Essex Schools XC

Qualifying runners from the Thurrock District Cross Country travelled to Hilly Fields in Colchester for the Essex Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday 17th January.  Athletes from schools across the borough competed and we had some fantastic results.

In the Junior Girls race Hayley Instance (Gable Hall) was our first finisher in 5th place, closely followed by Amber Pullinger (William Edwards) in 8th, Heather Peters (Ockendon) came in in 28th, Lucie Ball (William Edwards) 34th and Danielle Kemp (St Cleres) 50th.  In the Junior Boys race, the only race we had enough runners for a team, the boys did fantastically well.  Jack Exley (Ockendon) was our first finisher in 6th booking his place in the Essex Schools team for the English Schools in Blackburn, he was closely followed by Theo Adesina (William Edwards) and Taylor Newell (William Edwards) in 11th and 13th places respectively.  Sarab Dhillon(William Edwards) finished strongly in 22nd followed closely by Reece Scott in 26th and Ben Prior in 38th.  The team finished in 2nd place overall.

In the Inter Girls race unfortunately we only had 2 runners competing, Gemma Archer Haley (William Edwards) led the way in 12th followed by Brooke Mensah (William Edwards) who finished in 32nd.  In the Inter Boys Sam Smith (William Edwards) was our first finisher in 10th, Jody Meredith (St Cleres) close behind in 12th and Tyler Chu (William Edwards) 38th.

In the Senior Girls race Gemma Holloway (Palmers) took victory with a dominant display of front running.

Thank you to everyone that made the long journey to Colchester, and congratulations to all the athletes that gained Essex vests on finishing in the top 16.
