Essex League District Champions!

Thirteen boys from 12 different Thurrock primary schools were celebrating this week when they beat Harlow 3-1 to be crowned Essex League District champions. After only being together as a team since October, Thurrock Primary School's District Football Team won their first piece of silverware after putting together a thirteen match unbeaten run together. The team, consisting of the best primary school football players in Thurrock have been competing all season against teams from the South East of England in competitive and representative fixtures. The winning of the league is the first of five potential successes as the team are  in the semi-finals of three cups, including the prestigious Southern Counties Cup,  and the quarter-final of another. They are hoping to better the success of last year's success when the team, now in Year 7 lifted the league title and reached the final of the Southern Counties Cup.  Kevin Watts, joint manager says, "It is a fantastic achievement to win the league for the second year running with a completely new team and we didn't think we could match the success but this year has been a fantastic season with a terrific group of players and parents who have represented their schools and Thurrock in such a positive manner. To have done so well and to gone thirteen games unbeaten and to be involved in all cup competitions at this late stage of the season reflects the quality of footballing talent that we have in Thurrock. We are very proud of them. The aim is to remain unbeaten until we return from competing in the FA endorsed Football Festival in Jersey where we have fortunately been sponsored by Thurrock Tankers, Thurrock School Sports Association and the Thurrock Development Corporation Community Fund to which we are very grateful."The squad of players will be flying to Jersey on Saturday to participate in an International Football Festival with high hopes to continue their winning ways. The festival involves teams from across the UK and from France and pits the best District players against each other. John Bryant, joint manager says, "the festival is a fantastic experience for the players and the standard of football is the highest possible at their age group. It is also an opportunity for the participants to develop independence and responsibility."The squad of players from left to right are: Top row: John Bryant (Manager) Jamie Price (St Thomas'), Lanre Lewis (Tudor Court), Michael Jerman (Somers Heath), Scott Gunner (Aveley), Drew Klessa-Smith (Somers Heath), Elliot Page (Graham James), Fraser Williams (Stanford), Kevin Watts (Manager), Jamie Robinson (Arthur Bugler).Bottom Row: Harry Daly (Abbots Hall), Sonny Shilling (Corringham), Callum Jex (Herringham), George Boffa (Dilkes), Mason Iley (Stifford Clays).
