Orsett Young Leaders

On 28th January this year, a group of five BTEC PE pupils travelled from Gable Hall Secondary School to Orsett Church of England Primary School. The aim of their journey was to coach eight of the talented young leaders at the primary school, and help them gain confidence at standing in front of their friends to teach them PE warm ups. The BTEC pupils had to prepare a short presentation for the primary school pupils and demonstrate the skills needed to teach. All five of the secondary school pupils performed confidently and gained additional evidence for their development file, helping them achieve their BTEC standards. The real stars of the day were the eight young leaders from Orsett who were attentive, keen and practically skilful (particularly when it came to practicing "use of voice"). They worked closely with the older pupils to achieve a really high standard, and visibly grew in confidence throughout the session. All the primary school pupils got a special mention in school assembly as well as collecting Golden Book Awards, and most importantly they are now key in helping to develop other young leaders in the school and assist staff during PE lessons. The day was so successful that a follow up day has been planned as well as greater connections between the two schools. All the pupils involved should be congratulated!
